Hello! My name is Erin, and I was raised in Asheville, NC from the time I turned one. I attended Western Carolina University and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Secondary English Education. After graduating, I taught High School English for 4 1/2 years before I had to step back and begin tutoring in order to help my mom who became ill.
I decided to become a teacher for a few different reasons; primarily because I had some amazing teachers in high school, who not only made learning fun, but who also cared about each student individually and were always there to listen and mentor. However, I also wanted to become a teacher because of the teachers I had that failed in that aspect. I strived to become a teacher who not only helped my students learn and enjoy English but also knew I cared about them and would help in any way I could by being there for them.
When I had to take a step back from teaching, I began tutoring English and Math for Elementary through High School students. I tutored students who were struggling both in and outside of the classroom who were struggling in either or both subjects.
During my years teaching, I had my students complete forms at the and of the year that discussed their favorite topics, as well as things that I could improve on in following years. I am open and strive to do the best I possibly can, and I ask parents and students what I can do better. I am constantly trying to grow and welcome any suggestions that allow me to do so.
My experience teaching English in the classroom, and prior experience tutoring in Math has helped me grow throughout the past ten years. I love both English and Math, and I have had excellent role models who have helped me succeed in being able to tutor and teach in both. Prior to teaching, I was not great at grammar and proofreading, but my experience and ability to tutor in a way that makes it easier to pick up has been extremely beneficial for the students I have tutored.
