Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Composition (Music)

I have a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Music Composition, and have been an active composer for 35 years. I have written for bands, film, theatre, and chamber ensemble. My music has been performed by professional and student ensembles.

Ear Training

I am a researcher and writer on music theory topics, mostly alternative systems of tuning, and have over 30 years' experience with ear training courses, music transcription, and arranging.

General Music

I have been involved in music since age 8, and have worked professionally as a musician for 30 years. I have achieved the highest level of education in my field, and I don't exaggerate when I say that music is my life!

Music History

As a Doctor of Music, I have studied Music History extensively, and passed a very difficult set of comprehensive exams on the subject. Familiarity with Music History is essential to any doctoral music program.

Piano

I have been playing piano for 40 years, and have worked professionally as a pianist for 30, including ensemble and solo performance, teaching, recording, and working as an accompanist at churches and colleges.

Sight Singing

I have been sight singing music for over 30 years, and have had extensive training during my years of schooling.

Songwriting

I wrote my first songs at age 13. I am now a classical composer, but have lost none of my love or appreciation for songwriting.

Voice (Music)

I have been a professional singer for 30 years, performing on stage and in bands, and teaching voice privately for 20 years.
