Appalachian State University - Boone, NC (Master's)
Three years ago, I received a bachelor’s degree in Applied Physics from Appalachian State University with a concentration in electronics engineering. I loved learning about the natural world and developed a strong admiration for the scientific method. I learned how to concisely and constructively communicate findings with peers and how to properly format formal documents. Through my bachelor’s degree, I began viewing the environment as a system of equations and tutored physics and math for three years so I could share my enthusiasm with other students. It was this enthusiasm which prompted me to pursue a master’s degree in Engineering Physics at Appalachian.
My graduate degree focused on laboratory automation and quality control data acquisition. While working towards my degree, I was privileged to have an assistantship which allowed me to continue sharing my passion for science with introductory students. Each semester, I had approximately 80 students and it was my responsibility to guide them through a 3 hour physics lab. My experience teaching college physics students for a year was nothing short of inspiring, and after seeing the end of semester feedback from students, I knew they enjoyed their time as well.
Throughout my academic career, I tutored mathematics, particularly precalculas. As a student helping other students, I developed an understanding of how to communicate complex processes in a rudimentary and practical fashion.
Physics has always been my favorite subject to teach/tutor because you can utilize mathematics to solved complex real world problems.

She helped my daughter understand concepts for her quiz . Catherine was very patient and helped break down the information so it was easier to understand. I highly recommend Catherine!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have an undergraduate degree in applied physics with a concentration in electronics engineering. I have a master's degree in engineering electronics.
