NCSU (Mechatronic engineer)
Hi folks. My name is Allen W. I live in North Asheville and I am a senior Mechatronics Engineering student at UNCA/NCSU. I also have an Associate of Science from AB-Tech. I have worked in the past as a math, physics and chemistry tutor in the AB-Tech math lab and I love tutoring those subjects. I am also a FIRST robotics mentor for the local high school teams. To me, there is nothing like seeing someone's face light up after grasping a concept for the first time.
As a late engineering student, I have to apply math, physics and chemistry to problems on a daily basis and I have a strong understanding of those subjects as a result. I love to share what I know and help others in their quest to gain a greater mathematical or scientific perspective.
I think the reason many students have trouble with math and science is the "one size fits all" way that math is commonly taught. All students are different and respond best to varied teaching styles. When I tutor a student, I decide which approach (graphic, sequential or logical) best suits the student and work with them to help them gain a long-lasting, intuitive knowledge of the subject being tutored.
Another problem that students have with math and science arises from the fact that they have been bored by math teachers for years and simply "tune out". I like to teach math and science in a manner that is more interesting and gives the student the desire to learn more.
I can help students do more than just pass their homework and tests. I can give them the tools to build a strong foundation of math and science. Hi folks. My name is Allen W. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
