University of North Carolina at Asheville (Anth. and Lit.)
My name is Chelsea Z. I graduated in December from the University of North Carolina at Asheville with a B.A. in Anthropology and Literature, both of which I excelled in. My passion however, lies with literature. If I am reading, writing, editing, or teaching others about those things, I am happy! Volunteering with the organization Big Brothers Big Sisters of WNC, The Writer's Workshop of Asheville, and teaching swim lessons (the water being another passion of mine) have equipped me with the experience to engage, instruct, and motivate young individuals. I believe that passion inspires passion - that is after all how I became so enthralled with literature and writing; by having mentors who not only taught, but loved, their subjects.
As far as tutoring goes, I bring a lot to the table. I will challenge students by providing thoughtful work and engaging material. I love (literary) discussion so I constantly question student responses in order to probe further exploration and growth. This is done, however, not in an intimidating manner, but an encouraging thought-provoking way. I am a very enthusiastic person so I can guarantee that sessions will never be boring. I also like to employ a range of different teaching techniques that will keep students engaged. Specifically, I can help students with reading comprehension, grammar, editing and teaching students to edit their own work, creative and academic writing, and helping students prepare for exams that require a vast knowledge of literary history. What is the Enlightenment? I got it! When did the Romantics rule? I know it! Who is Don Quixote? Let me explain! Spending the last two decades in school has enabled me with myriad study strategies that I am all to eager to share. I can also proofread a students work, whether it be research papers for school or college application essays.
I am very flexible but do however, require a 24-hour cancellation policy. I have my own transportation so we could work out a meeting spot on an individual basis. I am also always open to discussion if anything needs adjustment at any point.
Thank you for your consideration and I look forward to hearing from you! Hello!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
