I am a native French professional linguist. I worked for the United Nations and other international and non-governmental organizations in New York, Geneva (Switzerland), Addis-Ababa (Ethiopia) and Bangkok (Thailand) in that capacity for 20 years. I recently moved to Asheville and teach French privately.
Having studied 6 languages myself, I have a unique perspective on how the mind processes languages. My teaching style varies with the age of the student, his/her skill level, but always takes into account the student's goal and preferred study habits.
Knowing French doesn't make a person proficient at teaching it. Which is why, I believe, most students do not remember the foreign language they learned in school. The brain processes a language in a very different way from that which is taught in schools, where the emphasis is more on preparing the student for an exam than giving him/her language skills.

Evelyne is patient, kind, and knows her stuff. Very happy we found her. She's close by, very flexible, and a wonderful teacher for my daughter. The teaching materials are first rate, and looking forward to more lessons.
Evelyn is a fabulous teacher! She provides written homework, detailed explanations, and conversation geared for my ability. I highly recommend her.
Evelyne is a patient teacher with many years of experience. As a native French speaker she provides the kind of one-on-one instruction, insight, and pronunciation help that you can't get from listening to audio lessons, stuying alone, or taking a class. Working with her makes you want to learn more!
Evie is a very good instructor, patient and seems to understand the needs of an adult learner. I would recommend her without hesitation to any adult learner wishing to learn french.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
