My fondness of tutoring began when I began working for Western Carolina University’s Writing and Learning Commons as a Writing Fellow. I worked with a group of 20 college students on their writing over the course of the year. That job, along with an internship that I had where I worked with Asheville youth, ages 10-21, on their creative writing and public speaking skills, convinced me to transfer to UNC Asheville and start working towards my license to teach 6-12 language arts students. I've felt more fulfilled ever since.
My primary area of specialty is poetry. However, I also have bountiful experience in helping students to enhance their skills in writing. My main goal is to make sure that I act as a facilitator – introducing students to skillsets and methods in order to help them learn to be independent critical thinkers and to help them build their confidence as both learners and writers. I do not believe in providing students with the answers. Instead, I prefer to act as a guide who helps students to navigate their way to obtaining knowledge themselves.
As the Diversity and Equity Intern for UNC Asheville's Center for Diversity Education, I have a strong commitment to learning how I can effectively communicate and work with people from diverse backgrounds in order to develop positive student-teacher relationships that will allow me to help enhance my students' learning.
I do my best to remain flexible, though, as a college student, I have a fixed schedule during the fall and spring. I have a 24-hour cancellation policy.
While I am open to whatever parents and students want and need, I do prefer to travel to quiet and public spaces such as libraries and coffee shops. My top priority is to make sure that students and their parents feel comfortable.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am majoring in English Literature at the University of North Carolina Asheville while pursuing my certification to teach 6-12 language arts. I am also a Writing and Editing Intern for the Grateful Steps Foundation in Asheville, North Carolina. My previous employment entails having worked for Western Carolina University's Writing and Learning Commons as a Writing Fellow.
