Catawba College (Literature)
While I love literature now, I began tutoring because of a request from a classmate during my sophomore year in high school. At the time, I possessed a desire to study computer science while literature served as just another subject. However, because of my first tutoring job, I developed a love for literature and teaching others. As a result, I am majoring in Literature with honors. Because of my experience with textual criticism, I have been tutoring for four years and see consistent improvement for all my students. Additionally, I am employed by the Catawba College English Department to work in the Writing Center starting in the fall of 2016.
While tutoring began as a job, it became a passion. I love tutoring because it allows me to my love of literature with others. Even though I am a bibliophile (lover of books), I realize not everyone desires to study literature. However, I know that literature can benefit everyone because the stories can improve the self. Additionally, I love working with students because it allows me to help someone while doing something I love. While some of my first students moved on from tutoring, I still keep in contact with them and hear about their success.
While I possess extensive experience tutoring English, I tutor multiple types of English. For example, I tutor Classical Literature, Medieval Literature, European Literature, British Literature, Science Fiction, General Literature, and American Literature. Because of my interdisciplinary knowledge of literature, my tutoring connects multiple facets of the field. Similarly, I tutor various of writing ranging from rhetorical analysis to workshopping creative writing. Additionally, I can tutor public speaking because I took Rhetoric 1 and 2 in high school, which were class talking about the theory and practice of discussion and presentation. Additionally, I consistently use public speaking in all my college classes and used it during my thesis defense.
Even though I am majoring in Literature, I possess a significant interest in History because it affects all types of literature. I possess experience tutoring American and European History at the Advanced Placement Level and provide the skills to excel during the exam.

Depending on the distance, the rate could change because of traveling costs.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Since I am majoring in Literature, I am constantly surrounded by English, and I love it. As a result of my academic success, I will be tutoring college writing during the fall semester. While I tutor higher levels of education, I also possess the ability to tutor anyone in writing and adjust my style to their skill level.
At my college, I have taken two survey classes in British Literature, ranging from 1300 to 1950 C.E. My final grades for both of the classes were A's. I possess experience tutoring both poetry and novel while providing the necessary historical, social, economic, and political background of the stories.
I am a Religion Minor. As a result, I take religion classes not only on Far Eastern Religions, like Judaism, Islam, or Christianity, but also on Hinduism, Buddhism, Daoism, Confucianism, and Shinto. Additionally, I have taken classes in Systematic Theology as well as Apologetics.
My writing tutoring is centered around gradual improvement, so each lesson can build upon another. I possess training in multiple types of writing and write thirty to forty essays per semester. As a result, I possess a deep love for writing itself and its application.
