I have been an elementary teacher for 30 years. I have recently relocated to North Carolina from the state of New Hampshire. I have tutored many students individually and in small groups.
I was a Title 1 Reading Teacher in New Hampshire and have used many strategies and techniques for helping struggling and beginning readers. My passion is working with children that need extra help and I love seeing the joy in their faces when they have learned something new.
I have a certification as a Reading Specialist and have worked in the field for over 20 years.
I have attended many workshops and Professional Development opportunities in the area of the Common Core.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been trained in the Common Core. I have attended many workshops about the Common Core and how to teach it. I have taught the Common Core Standards and also spent a lot of time aligning the Common Core standards to our State standards in New Hampshire. I have many Common Core resources that I can use with students.
I have been an elementary teacher for 30 years. I have taught every grade level K-4. My strength is working with this age level. I have had 5 years of experience tutoring after school in addition to my teaching experience.
Handwriting has always been one of my best subjects. I have been trained in several different approaches to teach handwriting. I believe strongly that handwriting is the basis for fine motor coordination and is an important subject in schools.
As a Reading Specialist and a former Title 1 Coordinator, I have had extensive training in the area of phonics. I have used the phonetic approach with many students (including ESL) and seen how well it works. I am also training in Orton-Gillingham and the Wilson approach to teaching phonics. I have many games and strategies that I have accumulated over the years.
