Grand Canyon University - online (K-8 SPED Education)
I am currently studying to receive my K-8 and Special education degree online through Grand Canyon University. I am in my senior year and will be student teaching next fall.
I currently work as a para educator at Three Forks Schools in the resource/special Ed classroom. I love my job, which is why I made the decision to finally earn my teaching certification.
I am a single mom of two boys, my oldest being 20 and youngest 16. I really am comfortable with students from K-12, but with my upcoming studies and internship feel tutoring K-6 is most appropriate. I love kids and love helping them succeed even more.
As previously stated, I am a para educator at Three Forks Schools. I work with elementary students in the resource/special education classroom, but have had previous assignments and subbed in classes in middle and high school also. I work with a diverse group of students of different grades, ages and learning ability within various subjects. I believe every student is capable of learning, but may learn in different ways and require modification and accommodations to help them be successful.
I believe every student deserves an education and is capable of learning and it is important to get to know and understand the ways a student learns best. When a teacher can help a student find new paths of learning that help them learn better and be successful, they are also helping them develop great confidence and self esteem to help them throughout their school years and careers. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I currently work as a para-educator at Three Forks Elementary in the resource/special education classroom. I teach and help students of various grade levels K-5 in reading, language arts, spelling, math and social studies and science when needed. We use a variety of curricula so we can collaborate with their general classroom teachers. I love my job and working with the students and understand that all students are able to learn, but sometimes learn in different ways.
I have worked as a para educator for eight years and currently work in the resource/special education classroom. Over the course of my eight years, I have worked one on one and in small group settings with special needs students who have AD/HD, Autism, Asperger's, are non-verbal, behavioral and emotional disorders and diverse learning disabilities.
I love my job and am in my Senior year of college obtaining my K-8 and Special Education degree online through Grand Canyon University. You could consider me a late bloomer, as I am 47 years old, but I feel my years of experience as a parent, mom, substitute teacher and para educator contribute to my qualifications and knowledge.
