I graduated from SFSU in 2013 with a degree in Early European history with a sub-field in American history. At SFSU i organized study groups within the history department in an effort to gain teaching experience and help my fellow history students and others looking for help with history classes. By virtue of my success organizing these groups and undergraduate academic success, I was selected by the University of Montana for a teaching assistantship and entry into their master's program in American history.
I primarily teach undergraduates, but have also acquired experience tutoring and teaching high school students and some middle school aged students as well. I prefer the one-on-one tutoring setting as it lends itself towards establishing an academic relationship with the student. Getting to know each other and understand one another as people i find greatly increases student comfort in tutoring sessions and eventual success.
I have taught classroom-setting ACT English classes in Reading, English (grammar, etc) and Essay writing. I have extensive analytical reading and writing experience as well. Furthermore, my work is currently under review for several academic journals in American history.
I have a lifelong passion for the field of history.I am well versed in a variety of historical fields from World and European history to American history and its various sub-fields. I have taught (through my teaching assistantship) courses in Western Civ I and II, and currently teach World History and AP US History for a private education company in San Jose.
Please contact me with what you are having trouble with and I will respond with how I plan to help you absorb the material. English and History are much more than memorization and my philosophy revolves around getting students to internalize concepts rather than just repeat what they are told. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
