Fullerton College (English)
My name is Lindsay and I'm hoping I'll be able to help you in your search for a tutor for your child or yourself. I've been tutoring privately and with my school for almost three years now and I LOVE it. Primarily, I teach English writing and reading for all ages and skill levels. As a Girl Scout, I have worked with small and large groups of children, and as a program tutor, I have worked with students of every age and specialty individually. I particularly enjoy working with students who have difficulty in a traditional classroom setting, my ESL and ADHD students being some of my favorites.
At this time, I have earned my CRLA Level 1 tutor certification and am working toward Level 2. I am CPR and First Aid certified, for adults, children, and infants. I like to make learning as fun and spontaneous as possible for my students, and have often been complimented on my patience, enthusiasm, and creativity. Besides English, I have also tutored math up to geometry and general study skills. I have even, on rare occasions, tutored for biology or human anatomy - but I freely admit I'm rusty in those subjects.
For a little more about me: I am an Honors student at Fullerton College and a Troy High school graduate; I have won a few awards for my writing, both creative and academic; I love to sing, dance, and spend time with my dogs and cats; and last, but certainly not least, I can tell you that I am already looking forward to working with you in whatever subject you're wanting help with.
Please feel free to contact me for a resume or an interview - I can't wait to hear from you!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am qualified to tutor ADD/ADHD students primarily due to experience and my own temperament. As a teaching assistant at a local elementary school, I was often asked to work one-on-one with the trouble students, who often were diagnosed (or undiagnosed) ADHD. I did well enough with the first two, that each classroom I worked with (grades from kindergarten to sixth) would assign me such students. I have since also worked with a high school student privately who is diagnosed with ADHD - both he and his mother often complimented my skill and patience with him. I think I do so well with these students because it has always been natural to me to get especially calm when I am with someone especially active, but also because I don't take their attention wandering so personally; I, myself, am often able to keep up with their thoughts even as they jump tracks because my thoughts are similar. What all of that boils down to is: my attention naturally wanders, so I empathize and am usually able to control the flow of their attention as I have learned to control mine. Frankly, these are my favorite students for the very reason that I connect best with them - they're just so much fun.
As a private tutor, I have several times been asked to work specifically with a student on their time management, test-taking, and study skills. My background as a school tutor has helped me, especially the training I received as an ESP (Entering Scholars Program) tutor at Fullerton College, since that program focuses more on general mentorship and life/school skills than subject specific tutoring.
