I have lived abroad for a time in Murcia, Spain and in Balfate, Honduras. I use a mixture of methods to teach language, based on the concept that we learn our native language as babies beginning with auditory response, followed by "babbling"/repeating vowel sounds, followed by consonant sounds, and then later, learning to recognize written symbols and learning to form grammatically-correct sentences. I love contextual learning and have experienced the benefits first-hand.
I have translated professional texts, helped proofread and edit texts in both English and Spanish, and have taught struggling students to improve their organizational, study, and writing habits/skills. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taken the training to teach Focus on the Family's Truth Project Worldview study, both in English and in Spanish. I am currently in my second year of teaching Old Testament Survey at the secondary education level at a Montana-state accredited private high school. I have studied the Bible and been on leadership in a variety of capacities and groups from the time I was 14 years old.
I have been instructed in drawing by qualified art teachers, as well as self-study from drawing manuals, from 4th grade through high school. I have continued om my own during the 11 years post high school graduation. I also am a certified high school teacher, so I have experience teaching in various subjects.
After studying grammar throughout my elementary school years and high school, I continued my studies in both English and Spanish. I took both a linguistics course at MSU-Bozeman and one in English Grammar. In truth, even my studies of the Spanish language have helped me to deepen my understanding of the skeletal structure underlying my own native tongue. I completed a final project for said Grammar course in which I was required to first diagram a lengthy poem, and then write a critical analysis paper on every single line I had diagrammed and give proof for each choice I made. If there were ambiguity in the option for diagramming underlying, (sometimes only implied), structure, I had to defend my selection with evidence as to why I believed the author to be using such structure in light of the poem's theme, setting, and audience.
I took 4 years of piano lessons when I was young, and excelled enough that when my instructor needed to re-certify, she chose me to test. I passed with proficiency, and I went to perform in the Honors Recital for three consecutive years, as well as competing in the State Music Competition my sophomore year of high school, after a year and a half of continuing to practice and study music independently. I have now played piano not only in the classical style, but have also been taught by friends and fellow musicians how to play with guitar chords, and I have composed a few songs. I have played with several different groups as a keyboardist in the last 11 years.
