About Nasreen

I graduated high school in 2010, and got my AS degree in Biology from Diablo Valley College in 2013. I have since transferred to the University of Montana and am double majoring in Anthropology (Archaeology Option) and Microbiology (Microbial Ecology Option). I have a passion for learning. Learning is not just taking in information, it is the blissful feeling of success you feel once you have achieved your goal. I have tutored high school students in Algebra 1 and Geometry, and I have also been a volunteer tutor for French and English. I worked as DVC's Anthropology tutor for a semester. I took AP and Honors English in high school as well as Honors French (French 5) and Honors Chemistry. I scored an 1850 on my SAT and I scored a 4 on both my English and Environmental Science AP tests.

I have been playing piano since I was 6 years old, and I was very involved in my high school Drama Department as well as the Track and Field team. Helping others reach their goals is MY goal! I care a lot about my community- I was on the Pleasant Hill Teen Council for 5 years (one of which I actually served on the Park and Rec Board of Directors)and I spend a lot of time volunteering around the community at places like the local library. I believe that a strong and happy community is made up of people who care about themselves and others. I try to incorporate this into my tutoring method by not only making sure the student learns the material but also trying to inspire a love for the subject and learning in general. When someone is passionate about learning, it is easy to encourage them to spread their enthusiasm!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Anthropology is the study of humans, divided into the sub-disciplines of linguistic anthro, physical anthro, cultural anthro, and archaeology. I was hired by my school (Diablo Valley College) to tutor students in all the anthropology courses offered at DVC. Anthropology is my major and I am extremely passionate about the subject!

Archaeology is the study of ancient peoples, one of the four disciplines of anthropology. When I was the anthropology tutor at my school, my favorite discipline to tutor was archaeology! I am working towards my degree in anthropology, aiming to work in the field of archaeology.
