Hi! My name is Teri and I love to read and write. Over the years I have studied and tutored at both high school and college levels with great success with my students. While not certified, I did teach for a private Christian high school. I taught all subjects for grades 9-12 and truly discovered a love for teaching. As a teacher I was able to observe and teach the importance of reading. Reading directs everything in our lives and improves our chances of succeeding in life. I am also a mother of 3 kids, ages 10 and under and have learned so much about how younger children learn. I homeschool my oldest child and am sincerely enjoying learning new and exciting ways to teach reading, spelling, writing and vocabulary. I hope I can help you as a student learn to love reading and writing as much as I do. I look forward to hearing from you and beginning this adventure together!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I began conducting children's church and bible studies beginning 21 years ago. I was a camp counselor and a christian camp as well as teaching the bible and apologetics at a high school level. When I was 20 I took over as youth leader and coordinator at a small Baptist church.
As a college student I minored in English which included grammar classes such as learning to write phonetically for dictionaries. This combined with teaching reading to my students over the years and, more recently, my children, has taught me much about working with phonics.
In high school I ranked 12 out of 82 in the state of Wyoming for the interpretive speech season. In college I was recruited to help start and perform on a radio show that went back to performing readings, plays and comedies on air with a successful run and was interviewed on a statewide news show. I acted throughout high school and college and in turn taught drama and public speaking to my high school students.
As a sophomore in college I did my sophomore internship at a local high school in the subject of study skills for at risk students. I successfully completed the internship and had the class turned over to me to teach under supervision for an additional quarter. When I became a counselor for teens court ordered into long term treatment I was sent into training and certified to teach independent living skills which included study skills.
I began singing publicly at the age of 12, took private lessons through junior high and part of high school and then again throughout college. My first major in college was vocal studies and performance and I performed professionally at a local level for 5 years. Additionally I have learned and am currently continuing to learn voice therapy techniques to ensure that vocal abuse can be limited and eliminated.
