About Laurie

I have taught English as a Second Language overseas for over 20 years. I have strong experience in grammar, reading, writing and test preparation. I am able to help students seeking SAT/ACT assistance as well. When working on a specific assignment I try to help students develop their own skills to expand on their knowledge, using supplemental materials as needed. Students' success is my primary goal.

I have a B.A. in English/minor Spanish and I am fluent in Greek. After college, I taught English in the U.S. Peace Corps in Sri Lanka, followed by 7 years teaching in language schools and community colleges in the Chicago area. For the past 20 years I have been living in Europe tutoring students for proficiency test preparation, IB studies, and general language development.

I currently substitute at Florence Carlton School. I have an immaculate record.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
