If you are feeling behind in math class there is plenty of time to catch up and even to get ahead. With years of experience, my aim is not to simply get the homework done, but to find out why you are struggling. As we fill in the gaps and form new habits of organizing your thoughts, the rest of the school year can feel much better. A free consultation is available to discuss your concerns.
I am certified in Montana and in California as a math teacher and as a secondary school principal. From 1988 to 2006 I operated my own tutor center in Montana. My classroom experience includes elementary, middle school, high school, and college. As a tutor I have addressed a wide range of needs. With a little (free) testing and some personal interaction, I can identify problems and potential, create meaningful options, and design a clear plan of study. Marjory was great in helping me think about Algebra in simpler terms. She really helped me understand what the question and answer were saying. Highly recommend.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Algebra one is the course that raises reasoning skills from concrete to the abstract. Concepts that may have been introduced in earlier grades must be mastered in this course in order to handle algebra two. I consider this course to be my specialty -- and it is also the course for which most people seek extra help.
I can take either of two approaches. For students who bring specific assignments or a particular exam, I can zero in on the usual points of confusion and clear up the difficulties rather quickly. For students who need a full course in algebra one, I can provide materials and customize a program of study to fit any schedule.
Since I owned and operated my own learning center for eighteen years, I have successfully coached clients preparing for a variety of tests. I can help students to zero in on areas of concern. Precision practice with a definite step-by-step process naturally develops skill and confidence quickly.
I have taken the CBEST test and passed all portions on the first attempt. I recognize the parts of the math test that could be problematic.
