Montana State University (Science, Nursing)
I have experience helping students study subjects from english and writing to anatomy, physiology, biology, chemistry, psychology, and many aspects of environmental science. I get the most enjoyment out of helping others achieve their goals. I am very personable and have great communication skills, and I like to go above and beyond to help people. People have different learning styles, and it is important to understand those and individualize a learning experience.
When learning difficult subjects, I find that it is important to learn in a manner that allows for a mastering of the material. I think this allows for the most success in courses and help with fast recall, tying together complex information, and allowing for deeper processing. I have found the most success with techniques in memory recall giving students the ability to achieve very high grades, even in subjects they are weakest in.
My interest in neuroscience and cognition also has led me to dive into learning psychology. Working as a scientist, and then returning to school, I feel your pain in the long study hours and the pressure of school and grades!
I am available to help and to work with your schedule. I look forward to meeting you and helping you with your goals in schooling. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I got a B.S in Environmental Science, and I took a course in Botany. I have also taken courses specific to plants in the Western U.S. I worked as a researcher for a botanist for a summer in Montana, conducted vegetation surveys in Alaska for a summer, and conducted three years of work primarily regarding plant re-establishment on degraded sites which involved knowing forbs, sub-shrubs, trees, and grasses from Alaska to New Mexico and all states in between. That position required extensive plant knowledge and memorization of hundreds of plant species, as well as keying out and identifying species.
I have taken two Organic Chemistry courses. The last course I took was 6 months ago and I received an A. I have also worked as an environmental scientist which required basic Organic Chemistry knowledge. Both of my courses required a lab. I helped other students study during the course, and I found the material to be relatively easy for me to master. I also have other foundations of chemistry such as Anatomy and Physiology, Microbiology, and Nutrition.
