About Andrew

I have been tutoring since high school, helping my classmates to understand the material. I was asked by many of my teachers to assist other students with classes I wasn't taking but had previously, awakening my love to teach others and see them succeed. I tutored many subjects throughout high school, from Algebra and Trigonometry to Chemistry, Biology, English I - IV, and U.S. History. I honed my ability to teach the material on a level that the student, regardless of their learning style, could grasp and understand.

Once I got into college at Mississippi State University in 2008, I continued my tutoring with many of the courses I was taking at the time, including Intro to Comp. Programming in C++, English Composition, and Calculus I and II. Since then, I have tutored many junior high and high school students in basic maths and sciences, as well as college level Algebra and Trig.

Another aspect of tutoring I have performed has been in music. I have played drums since 5th grade, guitar since 6th grade, and piano since 10th. I have worked at Olive Branch Pickers in Olive Branch, MS as a music instructor, teaching drum, guitar, and banjo lessons on and off for a few months, and have had many students improve their abilities dramatically.

Regardless of which subject you need to be tutored - math, science, english, history, or music - I am capable of teaching you or your child in the best way for you or them, individually.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

C++

I have the credit hours necessary for a Computer Science minor from Mississippi State University. I took multiple courses in the basics of C++ programming language, and at least three other courses that dealt with more complex computer programming structures that used the C++ language. I have over 100 hours of experience coding in this language, and have compiled many different working programs using the C++ language.

Drums

I joined my high school drum line in 5th grade, and played the snare drum in 6th grade, then moved to the quints (5 drums) in 7th grade. I stayed on the quints from 7th to 10th grade, at which time I left the drum line and began playing the drum set at a local church. I played there for four years, with two three-hour practices and a half-hour performance every week. I have also taught drum lessons for a few months at Olive Branch Pickers, the local music store.

Guitar

I have been playing guitar since the 6th grade, when I was 11. I am now 25, and have practiced multiple times a week, every week, since I was 11. I have played professionally in multiple cities, including Southaven, MS, Corpus Christi, TX, and Starkville, MS. I also taught guitar lessons at the local music store for a few months.

Microsoft Windows

I have been using Microsoft Windows operating system since my family first got a PC when I was 8. I have never owned a Mac, only PCs, and, because of my Computer Science education, have learned many of the ins and outs of the Windows operating system. I also know not just the typical features most consumers know about but the actual programming behind these features, and how to change it if necessary.

Swimming

I have been swimming as a recreation since I was 2 years old, but became serious in 2007 when I became a lifeguard at the local pool. We were required to be able to swim a set amount, 500m. I also began competing in triathlons at the same time, which begin with a swim, followed by a bike and run. In the summer of 2010, I also began teaching swim lessons at the Oktibbeha County Hospital from kids from 3 years old to kids in junior high, in which case I was less of a teacher and more of a coach.
