I have always enjoyed teaching, even from a very young age. I began the art of teaching at 12 years old through horse training and riding various disciplines. It progressed as I aged into academics of high school and my undergraduate career where I was a member of the Anchor Club, Physics club, Varsity softball, soccer, and cross-country teams in addition to earning a national certification through the United States Pony Club.

During my undergraduate career I conducted research in the fields of neuroscience, ecology, and biology to earn my Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Neuroscience. I began my graduate career shortly after and earned my Master of Science in Biology conducting behavioral research on cockroaches while simultaneously teaching undergraduate health profession track students cadaver-based Anatomy & Physiology. I then became an instructor at both the high school and collegiate level for Anatomy & Physiology where I have earned very high marks and positive reviews for my teaching style and approach. My approach stems from a philosophy of understanding why the wrong answer will not work, to better and more easily understand why the right answer will work. I often use various media to assist students in their understanding such as figures or diagrams, songs, and even silly anecdotes to remember those hard but important details. I also will often assign short quizzes to assess the student's progress. Currently I am earning my PhD in Clinical Anatomy.

Public Speaking

I did very well in Speech and Debate in high school. I have presented many research papers and projects throughout college and have received awards for best presentation on multiple occasions. I have given speeches to adult audiences of hundreds, as well as audiences as young as 8 years old. I am presenting at the Tri-Beta Symposium in Jackson MS in February on my past research and also at the MS Academy of Sciences for another research project I completed. I am very confident in speaking to any audience, and very able to communicate techniques on how to become a confident and effective speaker.

Very prepared and Knowledgeable! AMAZING TUTOR!

Kayla was very prepared to teach my 10th-grade son. Due to Covid, my son didn't get much instruction from his AP Bio teacher from school and was worried about the AP exam. Kayla was very organized and knowledgeable. Also, she was very understanding. My son just had his first session and he will continue to work with Kayla to prepare for his AP Bio exam. I highly recommend Kayla!!
