I am a passionate tutor whose philosophy is to lead my students to the "roots" of their subjects. This approach allows for background understanding which can then be applied to any problem that the student encounters. This, in essence, will also reduce the number of hours that a student will need my attention as a tutor. In summary, my approach is to "teach the student how to fish" rather than handing out fish whenever the student needs it.
I have a degree in Pharmacy, Biomedical Sciences and a PhD in Neuroscience. I have taught students at various levels from community colleges to graduate school level. I have taught courses in Cellular and Molecular Neuroscience, Psychology, Pharmacology and several others. Samuel took the time to review the material before coming to tutor. Additionally, he taught my daughter the subject material so she understands it, and not just to learn it for a test. Great session, we will use him again!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
