Hello! I am a certified teacher with 18 years of teaching experience. I am the school based interventionist for our school. As an interventionist, I analyze testing data to insure that a student's lower achievement is targeted and with hopes of being fully mastered. My job is to fill in the gaps that are missing in a student's education. In order to fill in those gaps, proper strategies need to be taught and used with expectations that they will transfer back into the classroom.
Before becoming the interventionist, I taught K-3. Second grade was where I spent a majority of my classroom years teaching Reading. I have many strategies for teaching phonics, improving oral reading fluency, and comprehension. I believe that one size does not fit all. I will try a strategy, but I won't waste time if the strategy is not successful. I will work with each individual and treat him/her as an individual. I have knowledge of a parent's rights pertaining to his/her child's education. I will be an advocate for what is right for each and every child.
Often times teaching is like a mystery or a puzzle. We, as educators, must find the missing pieces and place them where they belong. Sometimes it is very simple, while others it may take some time. Regardless, I am not one to give up and will go beyond in order to help a child feel accomplished and successful.
I have my bachelors degree in Elementary Education from the University of Southern Mississippi. I have taught Reading and Grammar for the last 18 years. I have researched and taught strategies to build Reading comprehension.
I have been to several Reading trainings that supplied us with the knowledge and tools needed to teach phonics to students. I have attended and have received a certificate in both Phonics First (Orton-Gillingham) and LETRS training.
Many times, spelling has to do with the knowledge, understanding, and rules of Phonics.
Please contact me if you need help with any aspect of Reading. We will practice strategies and get you t
