My name is Tommy. I am currently working as a medical transcriptionist in Pearl, a job which gives me both a very flexible schedule and an increased sensitivity to errors in grammar or spelling (which tends to help with the tutoring). I graduated salutatorian of my high school class, and have always been able to excel in courses of language, art, and music as well as being able to help usefully with most others, including history and science. Any math tutoring up to algebra and geometry shouldn't be a problem. The only musical instruments I can help with are the piano and the voice, but anything involving theory, composition, or any other kind of music appreciation, history, etc. is right up my alley.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I taught myself to read beginning at age 3, and I haven't stopped reading since. I am familiar with and can communicate the phonics required to speak each word, as well as the proper thinking methods to ensure good comprehension of their meaning.
I have always been able to sing what I see on a piece of music. In my art-centered high school, I was graded on it many times, as I was (more stringently) during college. Near-perfect pitch also helps with this, but it isn't necessary by any means.
I have been singing as long as I physically could. I attended the Mississippi School of the Arts focusing on vocal music, where I received two years of voice training. I then became a Music Education major at the University of Southern Mississippi, where I studied for three years with Dr. Larry Smith, one of the four tenured voice teachers in the music program. I have had jobs at two different churches being paid to sing in the choir and as a cantor, respectively.
