Hi, I'm Maddie! I'm a senior in college, studying to obtain a Bachelor of Science degree on a full-ride scholarship to the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss). My major is Chemistry with an emphasis in Biochemistry, with minors in Mathematics, Biology, and Psychology. I have a 3.81 GPA and have 3 years of experience researching in a Medicinal Chemistry laboratory. All of this education has been greatly formative in the past few years of my life, and nothing makes me more excited than having the opportunity to use the knowledge I've obtained and to help others! I've been given the wonderful opportunity of being a teaching assistant (TA) for organic chemistry laboratories. In this position, I have a class of 24 students in which I teach lab procedures and organic chemistry concepts while overseeing the experiments of my students. This has taught me to ask myself what I can be doing to keep my students engaged and learning. I hope to bring the patience I've learned in my experience as a TA to tutoring other students, as well as my knowledge and genuine love for these subjects! I also tutored weekly in high school in all math and science subjects.

Practice, practice, practice is key in a student's success in these subject areas! With this in mind, my teaching approach is to first gain an idea of where the student is at in their understanding of the material, followed by any explanations and clarification of the material that would be necessary. This would then lead to the most constructive form of studying, which is known by scientific research to be practice with proper feedback. Often, this style of walking through test-like problems with students and having a one on one conversation about learning styles and points of confusion makes all the difference.

I have a natural understanding of math and enjoy working with numbers, but I would never call myself a "math person". A lot of times, students say that they just don't get math, but I truly believe that anyone can get it if given the proper learning experiences, with myself as a primary example. Without being a self-proclaimed "math person", I have completed my minor in mathematics with a high GPA, attaining A's in all calculus classes, as well as statistics classes. I also received a 33 on the math portion of the ACT (overall ACT score of 33). Additionally, I have been tutored myself for the ACT math and science sections, so I know of resources and methods that truly work, as this boosted my score by 5+ points.

Science is what my undergraduate career has been devoted to, which can be demonstrated by my STEM GPA of 3.8 and MCAT score of 516 (93rd percentile), as well as 1200+ laboratory hours, spent refining my scientific knowledge, specifically in the area of chemistry. I have a passion for biochemistry, and love explaining and talking through this subject with other students. Because biochemistry is based on a deep understanding of both biology and chemistry, I have the ability to counsel on those subjects as well!

Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions you may have, and I hope to help in your academic endeavors!

Test Preparation

MCAT,

MCAT

This past June, I completed the daunting task of studying for the MCAT by myself and successfully taking the test. I set out to hand-pick the best and most economical study tools, as well as create a personalized and effective study schedule to fill the time I had available. I was able to score a 516 on the MCAT, a 93rd percentile. I am available to give advice on study materials, create a customized study schedule, and tutor in MCAT subject areas.
