Being a teacher means motivating and caring about students and giving them the DESIRE TO SUCCEED! As a parent of an underachiever, I found the key to get my son motivated and he will graduate with his master's degree in December 2010. Because of his 31 ACT score, he went to college free on scholarships. He learned to take pride in his work and I was able to sit back and watch him mature and grow intellectually, emotionally, as well as physically, when he became hooked on learning!
I believe the thirst for knowledge is somewhere inside every individual. As a public and private school teacher in Arizona, Texas, and Mississippi, I found that classroom teachers do not have the time needed to draw out the best in every student. Occasionally, we have those magic moments when the light clicks on in a student's mind and they are changed into an individual full of intellectual curiosity; but, this experience is far too rare. Most teachers are crunched for time and getting one-on-one with a slow starter is a luxury in most school settings.
As a tutor, however, the opposite is true. Working closely with one person or a small group, helps the student be more accountable and the teacher gain insight. Learning what motivates each student is my goal as I acquire the tricks how to get them excited about that subject they hate. Usually, they have put up a mental block that hinders their understanding. With time and tender care, I can help most students OF ANY AGE push down those barriers which limit them and learn the skills that can make them SHINE. This enables them to rise to the top and the thrill of success becomes a motivation in itself.
Let me try to help. The end to your worries may just be just one decision away. The decision to let me help you become the best and embrace school success. Let the lessons begin!!! Deborah I think she's a good tutor she goes out of the way to help others. Deborah assisted me several of times and I really enjoyed her help. I think she explains things well. She answer emails back quick I would recommend her as a tutor.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
As an English teacher in Arizona, Texas and Mississippi, I have helped all age students learn how to improve their grammar skills. It comes as no surprise to me that many people are able to graduate from high school without being able to write a complete sentence. I have found, however, that in life good grammar skills are essential to secure a job, to excel in school and even to send text messages. People are my passion and I love to help students feel more confident and achieve their goals in speaking and writing with excellent grammar skills.
I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Speaking and taught Public Speaking at the high school level. I have also been a paid speaker at ladies events, church banquets and at a youth conference.
After directing over fifty plays, I know from experience ALL aspects of play production. Most students;however, are interested in ACTING. As an acting coach I have had many successes with past students active in Hollywood and on Broadway. I was thrilled to direct a 14 year old that was able to land a large supporting role in a major motion picture. Not only can I coach you in acting techniques and motivation, I can train you how to win during auditions which is what really counts!
I caught the acting bug in high school when I landed the leading female role in our High School Musical. Then I played the lead in every drama production I could find: in school, at church and in my community. I went on to major in Drama with a double major in Public Speaking. Before graduating I was awarded the OUTSTANDING STUDENT TEACHER AWARD over all education students graduating at my University. Then the fun really began as I started teaching drama and directing four to five productions a year. It has been my joy to see students blossom as they stretch to do things they thought they would never do on stage and in real life. Shakespeare had it right, "LIFE IS A STAGE AND WE ARE ALL PLAYERS!"
I have taught vocal music at a Kindergarten through 8th Grade School. Throughout the years, I would give vocal lessons to individual students who showed promise. I also lead Music at my church for eight years and would help children, teens, and adults one-on-one so they could be comfortable singing solos. I sang professionally when young and have never lost my joy in music.
