About Brooke

I have tutored a variety of students over the course of seven years. While my expertise is with reading/writing/language skills, I have also tutored elementary school students in all core classes. As a writing tutor, I have worked with students in elementary school, middle school, high school, college, and law school. This work has included teaching basic language and grammar, persuasive writing, reading comprehension, legal writing, public speaking, and working with ESL students. I feel that tutoring requires an individual to care about the success of their student, and a student's success is always a reflection of the tutor's ability to connect with a student in order to properly assess and meet the student's needs. Therefore, I approach every tutoring situation by becoming familiar with the student's needs, and I ensure that my tutoring is always a balance between setting realistic goals for a student and ensuring that their confidence stays strong by recognizing when they meet the goals. Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I spent three years tutoring students in K-6th. I was responsible for helping them with classroom assignments, teaching them study skills, checking their homework, and creating activities to teach them various material. My work with them included assistance in every subject and included 1-on-1, small group, and large group lessons.

Public Speaking

In the past, I have coached multiple high school mock trial teams. Currently, I am a teaching assistant in a law school course that teaches appellate oral arguments. Also, I have won Best Oral Advocate awards at appellate law competitions and mock trial competitions.

Study Skills

I have tutored students from elementary school through law school for seven years. For study skills, my experience has included teaching students how to take lecture and reading notes, how to create an efficient studying schedule, ways to prepare for a test, and test-taking skills. Therefore, my experience ranges from teaching students how to engage while in the classroom, how to prepare for and after class, and how to be prepared for a variety of exams.
