About Joseph

Prior Experience:

I have about 100 hours in which I have taken on several of my fellow students to prepare them for the ACT math and Science sections, tutoring with them for 15+ hours a piece, all of which scored 30+ in those respective sections. Myself, I scored a 34 Cumulative with a 35 on the math section of the ACT. I first began tutoring others during high-school when I was the Mathematics representative for the Student Tutoring and taught 1-8 hours during any given week for two years during my Junior and Senior years. The subjects taught during that period were Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, and Trigonometry. I currently am a tutor for my department in which I assist students in Physics related topics and I assist in the Chemistry department for Level One College Chemistry. I have spent a lot of hours helping others, because I know two very important things, by teaching others you grow your own skill set, and more importantly passing on knowledge is one of the best things you can do for another person.

I find that most people have a hard time learning things because they are truly not interested in that subject. By use of wacky examples and storytelling I think students can learn things twice as fast if not more than they usually would. Education today is not made for everyone which is something I discovered on my own once I got into high school. Instead of out of a book, I learned most of my materials outside of the classroom and as a result found a love for the sciences and especially math. Growing up I hated both of these subjects and didn't even make good grades in the classes, but once I began to love them, I changed from being a student to a hobbyist and as crazy as it sounds I study in my free time. I want to show people how to enjoy the subjects they have to learn about and make them more successful in them and in life in general.

About me: I am Physics Major, Hoping to go into Engineering and considering declaring an Economics minor, I love hiking, scuba diving, exercise, playing in the Southern Miss Band, playing a variety of music instruments, and basically anything fun I can get into. I'm very welcoming and easy to talk to, very relaxed low stress, I especially love building electronics in spare time and seeing how just a few wires and components can make incredible things. Send me an email and ask anything you need to know!

I love Math! When people say that they don't enjoy math I always tell them that Math is an "On Paper" representation of what is in the real world. All the equations for the first five years of math can be crammed in one sheet of paper, the same with advanced physics if you write a bit smaller. All you need is someone to translate. So, with a single sheet of paper and the right knowledge and the right questions, a person can change the entire world. I also taught myself almost everything in math that I know so I know what clicks and does not click easily with students. I had many pitfalls while learning and understand that some topics need to be explained in a couple of different ways with patience and I understand that the reward of somebody understanding a topic is worth the effort.

Send me an email! I will receive emails generally within a few hours during the weekend or during the week! I'd love to help you with anything you need, just give me a shout!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Awesome Tutor

Joseph has helped my daughter Jessica do a complete turn around in Math. The knowledge and little things that he teaches helps make the steps in Geometry a lot easier. I would recommended anyone struggling in Geometry or Math to contact him for tutoring.
