University of New Orleans
My name is Staci. I am a University of New Orleans graduate with a love of reading and creative imagery as a freelance artist. How does this translate to helping you in areas of study? Well, my "books as friends" way of thinking has kept my reading comprehension, grammar, proofreading, vocabulary and spelling skills fairly sharp. My joy of reading also tends to lend a hand when it comes to written expression. Taking this into account, I feel that I will be able to help you, the elementary through high school scholar, improve in these areas of English study. I would do my best to find methods of learning that help generate your interest in the subject matter. I tend to believe that the more relevant a topic is to you, the more that you will retain about the topic. An interested learner tends to be able to apply the knowledge acquired in a natural and more effortless manner. I am a fan of using whatever tools, such as "Schoolhouse Rock" (Raise your hand if you remember that programming! grin.) or reading materials (i.e. comics/manga) that best resonate with you based on interests, age and learning abilities.
This talk of comics or, as I see it, the written word meshed with illustration, brings me to the land of drawing and painting. Perhaps this is main the reason you are perusing my profile. I would use my 30+ years of drawing and painting experience to assist you in basic comprehension and application of 2-dimensional art fundamentals. While I've come to believe that artistic expression is innate, the understanding of a variety techniques can greatly improve your artistic skills. As with English, I feel that learning about art studio fundamentals through new materials as well as through some of those already enjoyed by you is important. Brief analysis of what makes a hand-rendered image enjoyable, successful or visually arresting can generate practical understanding of making your own images. From the elementary age student through adult, I feel that I can impart hands on, as well as, technical information that will improve your basic drawing and painting skills. Understanding of color, line, and shading doled out in ways tailored for a variety of ages and learning speeds is what I have to offer to you in the realm of art studio tutoring.
Thank you for your time and interest. I look forward to working with you. Hello there!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been drawing since I was a very young child. In the 30+ years since that time, I have come to believe that while artistic expression is innate, anyone can improve one's drawing skills by understanding the fundamental techniques behind 2-dimensional representation of an idea.
As a freelance artist, I continue to broaden my skill set in this area and I feel that I can reference my own learning process to assist others in the growth of their own. Please feel free to ask for images of my work via email if you are interested in working with me as a tutor. Thank you.
I have some experience in foreign language learning and have found that it is easier to grasp another language if it is presented in a more natural way. We tend to learn our first language through a combination of imagery and spoken word, rather than memorizing vocabulary lists, grammar rules, verb declension and the like. I would use this way of thinking to assist you in improving your understanding of the American-English language in whatever area(s) that you seek. I would find out what your interests are (i.e reading materials, video genres, etc.) and incorporate those into your English learning. Together we can increase your fluency in the written or spoken English word.
I have years of experience with the acrylic paint medium and can use that to assist students in the basics of pigment mixing and other 2-dimensional fundamentals often involved in painting. This would involve value exercises in black & white, the basic uses of color (hue, value & intensity) and composition. Thank you for your time.
