Hi,
I am a teacher with a little over five years of experience in the classroom. I graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a Bachelor of Arts. My Major was English with a specialization in Secondary Education and a minor in Political Science. As mentioned above, I am certified in English (7-12) and Social Studies (7-12), which includes History, Civics, and Government. I have also added a Middle School Science (7-8) certification to my teaching license. I have spent the past three years teaching middle school science (6th and 7th grade). This year I have the opportunity to teach World History, Geography, and Mississippi Studies.

I have been trained to help students grow and gain strength as writers, and it is also my passion to help students find their voice and a real confidence in writing skills. A strong writer can always succeed in his or her profession, and will be more adaptable to any career change. This is one of the most valuable skills that any student can learn in life, and can be learned through all of the above content areas in which I am qualified to teach and offer learning support.

I greatly look forward to working with students of all kind. Let me help on the learning journey which is life!

Ever since I learned that letters together make words, I have been an avid reader. Because I love it so, I have found a passion in helping others get a little closer to sharing the ease and success that often comes quickly to me with words and concepts. I have the traditional educational qualifications needed, but if those were all anyone needed, students would rarely struggle. I have almost 5 years in the classroom, where I discovered another passion. I love the learning process, and the way the brain adapts and absorbs new information. I have also learned to pay attention to brain triggers. I have witnessed too much frustration and stress make study almost impossible for intelligent and well-rounded students. I have also experienced it myself, in my own battles with new skills, and I consider my own setbacks to be my greatest qualifications. I spent a great majority of my school days with ADD, undiagnosed, unnoticed and with very few coping strategies. The point of all this is to let you know how crucial and significant even a small success can be. I believe small success is possible for most in just a few minutes. I will come to your lessons prepared to build on the small victories, and I've learned in my 6 years with Wyzant that most students can show dramatic progress with just a few lessons. I also try to show progress to my clients, because I believe that without feedback and encouragement, the brain too often (and tragically) gives up. A waste of time, yes, but worse yet is battling the self-doubt that tends to stay with many people, long after the loss. I apologize for the length of this, and I appreciate your kind attention. If you made it this far, you must have a deep commitment to the success I would love to help you earn.

Exactly what I needed!

In my later years, I decided try to write with hopes of being published This meant trying to create something great using my weakest skill. Rachel met with me very prepared to conduct a typical tutoring session. After explaining to her the ways that are difficult for me to learn, she set aside what she had prepared and quickly came up with an approach that has finally started me on the path to improvement. In addition to this, she provided me with the encouragement I needed to continue and the confidence, for the first time, that I too could learn to write better. If I become fortunate enough to write this story and be picked up by a publisher, Rachel will have played an early roll in my success. Thank you, Rachel.

Could not have asked for a better teacher

In 10th grade, my son's ACT scores in English and Reading were low. Rachel started working with him since February and she related well with my teenager son and nurtured his reading interest. It was a daunting task for me to get him to read. However Rachel broke that barrier and sparked his interest. Recently he attempted a few practice ACT tests and scored consistently above 30 in English and he surprised himself. Thank you Rachel.
