Jones County Junior College/University of Southern Mississippi/Tallahassee Community College
I have worked for the Mississippi Department of Human Services as a Social Worker for 21 years and for the past 2 years as an Area Social Work Supervisor. I have worked helping families and children all of these years. As a social worker I protected children from abuse/neglect. As a supervisor I oversee the activities of the social workers who protect children from abuse/neglect. I see children and families daily in the office and out in the field/communities. I visit the schools and homes seeing and talking to children about possible abuse. I see children who have been involved in many different situations which affect their education and their lives. I would like to assist children with their education to help them excel to their fullest and highest potential. Please give me an opportunity to continue to make a difference in the lives of children.
Today children are faced with many challenges and some children struggle with their education. Teachers only have so much time in the classroom to teach their students, and this time may not be enough for the teacher to be assured that all students understand what is being taught. The teachers are also faced with lots of other duties that are expected of them from the administrators and do not have the time to do one on one with a child who may not have grasped a concept or have understood the first time that the teacher explained it to the student. Therefore, a child can benefit from tutoring and helping children is what I have done throughout my career. Tutoring will afford me the opportunity to continue to help children to make things better for then and to make sure that they will be successful in school in order to become productive adults. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am very articulate and speaks very clearly and distinctly. I are very familiar with phonics and articulate words and sounds extremely well and very professionally. I have been told that I should be in Broadcast Journalism. I am called on all of the time to do special presentations and speaking engagements at church and work. I have done lots of trainings. My communication skills are excellent. I feel that I can be an excellent tutor for children who may need special and extra help with pronunciation and articulation in order for help children to achieve excellence in school and successfully speak and articulate sounds and words.
I have a passion for helping children and have spent my entire career in the field of social services, as a licensed social worker, helping children. The children that I am responsible for helping in my field all have special needs. I feel that all children can be successful and that regardless of any adversities children deserve to be taught skills necessary to help them to become what they desire to be. I am very patient and understanding and feels that these qualities are needed to handle children with special needs.
