Vanderbilt University (Piano Performance)
Southern Methodist University (Master's)
I am a thoughtful and dedicated educator who has been in love with teaching for most of my life. During my undergraduate career I taught piano in private and group settings, and have dedicated my life to helping students reach and exceed their goals.
I graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Music degree from Vanderbilt, and am currently working on my Master's degree at Southern Methodist University. Both of these degrees are focused in music and piano, so my specialties in tutoring lie in the arts and humanities, however I also have core subject tutoring experience. At the elementary school level I have tutored in some fashion in English, Reading, History, Social Studies, Math, and Science, and for high school students I have experience tutoring English and History. I received numerous awards throughout my undergraduate career for my writing and public speaking skills, and consider myself well versed in ACT, PSAT, and SAT test prep.
I have committed myself to being a lifelong learner, and I believe this drive is conveyed to all of my students. I present organized lessons catered to each students' needs and interests while focusing on challenging but manageable homework assignments.
I am fair and flexible, and will happily schedule make-up lessons when possible. I am open to working out of my own home, but also acknowledge that many students feel most comfortable learning in their own space, and so I will gladly travel up to 20 miles. My fee will change depending on the distance I have to drive.
I look forward to hearing from you, and aiding in your studies! I am a thoughtful and dedicated educator who has been in love with teaching for most of my life. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I played high school basketball for 3 years and was a starting player on Varsity for one of those years. I also played in pickup/intramural games in college. I'm an avid fan, and a good player, and have experience teaching my younger sister how to play the game.
I grew up in a Christian household and attended Christian schools from Pre-K through high school. I had a range of Bible classes during that time covering Old and New Testaments, Doctrine, Church history, World Religions, and Christian Apologetics. I am also still actively involve in worship and Bible study at my church.
I have a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance from Vanderbilt University. During that time I took 5 semesters of ear-training classes as well as 1 semester of a class on how to teach ear-training. I frequently use ear-training in lessons with my private and group piano students, as well as in my own performance studies.
