About Marjorie

I have been teaching for 35 years and have been teacher of the year several times. As a dedicated professional I believe in building academic confidence in each student. It is important for each individual to realize strengths and weaknesses; each student must knowingly work toward mastering the art of communication, and must prepare for the next level of study. I have taught preschool through high school in a variety of settings; therefore, I accept that all students learn differently, master information at different paces, and need encouragement and challenge. I have enjoyed every day of my career and eagerly look forward to meeting you!

I have experience with International students with many different language backgrounds, and I enjoy the opportunity to help individuals improve speaking, reading, and writing in English. I am positive, challenging, and likable; attributes that students remind me are important to their individual success.

Because I challenge students in a variety of ways, my sessions are not boring nor tedious. I believe in meaningful homework to provide individual confidence and achievement. Whether you want to improve English speaking, reading, or writing; you hope to improve your ACT or SAT score; or you are working on college papers, you will benefit from each session.

Please contact me for a personalized plan to meet your individual goals. After a consultation I will present an outline, and you will be on your way to successful learning!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Public Speaking

As a high school English teacher, I also teach public speaking. I use the Glencoe textbook SPEECH, and follow the curriculum guidelines provided by my department. There are International students in my classes who benefit from the intense pronunciation and diction exercises that I provide for them to improve oral communication, and I include work with new vocabulary and idioms for their benefit as well. I make the class reading and writing intensive with speaking practice daily.
