Hi, I'm Cannon. I have been fascinated with mathematics since grade school. I decided in high school that I wanted to teach math -- in large part due to a fantastic calculus teacher. Hi, I'm Cannon. I have been fascinated with mathematics since grade school. I decided in high school that I wanted to teach math -- in large part due to a fantastic calculus teacher. I went to Lindenwood University where I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in both mathematics and computer science. I was blessed with fantastic professors who shared their love of math and cemented my desire to pass that along to others. From there, I attended the University of Missouri at Rolla (now Missouri University of Science and Technology) where I earned a Master's Degree in Applied Mathematics while workings as a Teaching Assistant in both pre-calculus and calculus classes.

I have experience with all levels of algebra, but my specialties are trigonometry and calculus. I also enjoy doing ACT prep. I have spent the last twenty-one years doing my best to pass my love of mathematics on to my students by helping them build a deeper understanding. My favorite part of the job is working one-on-one with students and seeing those "lightbulb moments" when some difficult concept finally makes sense. My focus will always be on making sure students understand not just how, but why. To that end, I use technology as a tool when appropriate, but never as a substitute for learning the underlying concepts.

With so many schools still closed to in-person learning, I know there are many struggling students who could benefit greatly from one-on-one help. I would like the opportunity to provide that help. Please reach out to schedule a no-cost consultation and decide if I am the right tutor for you.

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

While I have not taught Algebra I in the classroom, it is the basis for nearly everything I do teach. I understand the necessity for a strong foundation in the fundamentals of algebra. When tutoring students in Algebra I, my focus will be on developing a thorough, deep understanding of those fundamentals.
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

I have been teaching advanced algebra in one form or another for over twenty years. My goal is for students to have a deep understanding of the underlying concepts in order to have a solid foundation for more advanced courses.
Calculus,

Calculus

Calculus is my favorite subject, and has been since I first took it in high school. I spent three semesters as a Teaching Assistant for Calc I at an engineering school known for its rigor. I still use the lessons I learned there in teaching my own calculus classes over twenty years later. As in all of my classes, my focus is on developing a deep understanding of the underlying concepts -- not simply memorizing formulas and algorithms.
Precalculus

Precalculus

I have been teaching pre-calculus for over twenty years. My goal is for students to develop a deep understanding of the underlying algebraic and trigonometric concepts. I want them to have the foundation necessary to be successful in calculus.

Math

ACT Math,

ACT Math

I have been helping students prepare for the math section of the ACT for over 20 years. In addition to the mechanics of the problems, I can help with test-taking strategies.

Trigonometry

Trigonometry is one of my favorite subjects to teach. I did not have a strong basis in trig when I was in high school, and it put me at a disadvantage later on. I do my best to make sure my students don't find themselves in that situation.
