Missouri State University (Elementary Education)
I am a mother to 5 children, ages 29-8 years old. I have 4 grandchildren. I have taught elementary school for 6 years in the Springfield area. I owned a gymnastics business and taught gymnastics for 35 years prior to teaching school. I grew up in Springfield and attended Springfield Public schools from kindergarten through high school. My degree is in Elementary Education and I am also certified in Early Childhood.
I have tutored through the Springfield Public School system. I have also tutored privately for years. I love being able to work one-on-one with children and helping them in areas where they need some extra help! Being able to sit down with a child and working on exactly what is confusing to them, makes learning so much easier. Making learning fun, using creative manipulatives is a way I try to make learning enjoyable and rewarding. Creating successes for each student is my goal.
I understand the concepts needed to meet the common core requirements in the area of writing. Helping students write about their area of interest makes the practice of writing easier and more fun.
I have taught using the common core standards since they were implemented nation wide. I use numerous resources to reinforce these lesson and concepts.
I love to teach young children. I love working with numbers and solving math problems. I use manipulatives to help the students understand the concept of number sense. Breaking down the more complex math problems into smaller, more easily understood concepts helps students who are struggling in math.
I would love to work with your child. I am enthusiastic, compassionate and passionate about learning. I am able to break down lessons into smaller parts, allowing the child to see small successes. This builds their confidence, taking away the fear and anxiety that sometimes comes with the struggling learner. These small success and more self confidence makes learning easier and more enjoyable. I encourage you to give me a call and let me help your child in their area of concern. I am a mother to 5 children, ages 29-8 years old. I have 4 grandchildren. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have had the opportunity to work in several kindergarten classes where teaching the formation of letters is critical. I have been successful at breaking down the different strokes and then combining these skills to form letters. I have also taught cursive writing. Reviewing how to form the letters and also how to connect the letters were skills I have previously taught. I have very neat, legible handwriting myself, making it easy for students to read what I have written. When they can easily read the written word, it is easier for them to copy.
