I absolutely love traveling and learning new things. I have traveled the world, pursuing opportunities to learn and explore, and also to teach and tutor students along the way. After graduating college with a degree in education, I decided to take a non-traditional route and move to Southeast Asia. I lived in Indonesia for 5 years, teaching in a variety of settings, from preparing university professors for English competency tests (IELTS, TOEFL), to tutoring elementary aged students in orphanages, and everywhere in between.
Besides my experience abroad, I also had the opportunity to teach for the past 1.5 years at a high school in Tampa, Florida. The subjects I taught were Intensive Reading, ESOL, and a college preparation class called AVID. I enjoyed each of them, as they all gave me the chance to be creative in planning lessons and challenged me to find new ways to truly engage the students in the learning experience.
Regardless of location, subject or country of origin, I am passionate about helping each student reach their potential for success. I would love to be a part of helping you be successful as well and look forward to learning together!
I have a CELTA (Certificate of English Language Teaching to Adults) through Cambridge English. I also have 5 years of experience working in Indonesia and teaching English as a second language there, as well as experience teaching ESOL at a high school in Florida. In addition to this, I taught Intensive Reading at the high school level in Florida.
I studied Indonesian while living there and reached a high level of fluency. I was sought out to conduct language evaluations for other expats who were working in Indonesia and learning the language. I also conducted language evaluations for Australian university students from La Trobe University and helped develop curriculum for an Indonesian exchange program for the Australian students who came to study.
I would love to answer any questions you have and find out if I can help you reach your educational goals! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
