Drury University (Accounting)
I tutored some in college, and I loved being able to help others finally understand the accounting concepts they had been struggling with for so long. Now that I have a good deal of practical work experience under my belt, I'm enjoying tutoring again. I consider myself to be patient, kind, and flexible.
A bit of background on my professional career: I passed all 4 sections of the CPA exam on the first try and started my career in 2008 as an auditor with a Big 4 accounting firm. After two years, I was working as a Senior Auditor and spending a lot of time with first-year staff members, explaining auditing concepts and methodology to them. In 2012, I decided to transition out of public account and into industry and worked as a corporate accountant on a small team in the downtown Denver area for two years. In 2014, I moved back to Missouri to be closer to family and friends. I currently work full-time as a Accounting Analyst with a public company and use Microsoft Excel on a daily basis, including functions like vlookups, pivot tables, sumifs, and sumproducts; I also assist with the preparation of tax returns from January through April.
When working as an auditor and coaching my staff, I had to have patience when teaching, but I also had to be efficient and effective due to budget constraints and compressed timelines. I know you'll want to get the most you can out of our sessions, so rest assured I'm going to be focused on helping you in the most efficient and effective ways possible.

My initial contact with Katie was September 10 in early afternoon. I needed assistance creating Excel spread sheets. Katie arranged a meeting for late afternoon the same day and provided me the spread sheets in the morning of September 11. Katie emailed the spread sheets and then followed up by phone to make sure they were what I wanted and that they worked properly.
Very prompt, good detail, and very pleasant to work with.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I obtained my Bachelors of Science in accounting and am a CPA licensed in Colorado. I tutored many of my classmates when attending college and really enjoyed seeing the smiles on their faces when they were able to improve their test scores. I find that tutoring forces me to learn the material better than I normally would, and in turn enriches my own knowledge.
