"The ideal individual has a balance between gymnastics and music." Plato said this in his famous work, The Republic. It was his way of saying that a well rounded person needed to be educated in body and mind. I attempt to employ this philosophy in my education techniques. "The ideal individual has a balance between gymnastics and music." Plato said this in his famous work, The Republic. It was his way of saying that a well rounded person needed to be educated in body and mind. I attempt to employ this philosophy in my education techniques. Subject matter needs to be relevant to the student. By finding what speaks to the heart of the student and finding those connections to the subject at hand, the teacher can make the learning experience enjoyable. Using sports analogies for music, or how science has won wars can spark the interest of a student in a given subject. Ultimately, instilling the desire to learn as well as the ability to learn on one's own objectifies my goals. I strive to make my position as an instructor obsolete.

How is this done? I have been very blessed to have traveled the world, performed as a musician, and taught elite students as well as at-risk youth. I bring life experiences to the student. In so doing, I hope to make the learning experience exciting and desirable. Ideally, self-discipline and self-motivation will drive the student forward. Until then, positive reinforcement and encouragement will be used to attain the desired goals.

I have taught all my life. I taught my first private student when I was only 12 years old. In the many years since then, I have taught in schools from California to Missouri. The epiphany that a child experiences when being taught can not be bought at any price. It is a treasure. For this purpose, I continue to pursue excellence as an instructor. Having just received my Masters Degree in Music - Theory and Composition, I will seek to further my abilities by pursing a doctorate.

My hopes are that my experiences and knowledge can by shared with your or your children. I look forward on speaking with you on how I can help you attain your goals. Thank you for your consideration.

In my tenure as an instructor for the Magnolia School District in Anaheim, California, I was part of many in-services designed to improve reading skills for students at all levels. Among the many aspects of reading that were covered in training, phonics was included. The subject of phonic instruction included its introduction to very young learners (kindergarten) to older readers who needed additional help.

As both teacher and student, I have had to demonstrate and employ solid study habits to achieve superior results. As a teacher, I have seen what works well for my students and that which does not. Each student has strengths and weaknesses to overcome. As such, it is my responsibility to find the methods that work best for each student. As a student, I know what has worked for me. I will share those strategies with my students. Again, everyone is different. So, while these study skills may have worked well for me, they may not always work well for others. But, it does give one a starting point from where to begin to develop study skills and strategies.
