My name is Lina D. I am a former filmmaker, language teacher, a mother of three and a native Chinese speaker. I have been researching and practicing bilingual parenting and teaching for years.
For the last four years, I have been teaching my daughter Chinese in a fun and non-intrusive way by telling her stories, singing songs/rhymes, playing games and doing hands-on craft activities. While building her vocabulary in Chinese I encouraged her to actively engage in speaking Chinese with me. Currently, I am also working as a Chinese teacher in a local private pre-school.
My teaching approach is to spark the interest of learners, engage them in a fun and happy learning experience and encourage them to quickly apply what they have learned to real life.
My teaching method is to create a language-rich environment and consistently expose learners to the correct use of the language in multiple linguistic contexts. Targeted vocabulary, phrases and sentence structures repeatedly appear in stories, role-plays, dramas, songs/rhymes, finger plays, visual aids, games and hands-on craft activities, combining learning and play seamlessly. Learners are also given many opportunities to interact.
I want to share my knowledge about Chinese language and culture as well as my teaching experience through tutoring children and parents as well.
I have a Bachelor's degree in International Journalism and a Master's in Communication. I also finished all the classes required for the Ph.D degree. My name is Lina D. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a Chinese native speaker. Currently, I work as a first-grade Chinese teacher at a local Chinese school. I am also a tutor for a high school student in my area.
I was a reporter, editor and assistant director in a provincial TV station in China until adventurous spirit and a full scholarship brought me to the U.S. to pursue a Master's degree.
