I am an experienced teacher/tutor that recently went back to school to complete my Masters Degree in Education-Distance Learning. I enjoy private tutoring and have had several years experience with a wide age range of students.
My BS is in Elementary Education with a specialization in Reading and Math. I am currently pursuing a 2nd Masters Degree in Teaching and Learning with Technology. I love seeing students succeed and I do everything I can do to make sure that they master the content of the subject we are working on. I have the knowledge to research and present strategies and learning tools to help a student master any subject. I love to differentiate work to meet the specific needs of the student.
My goals are to motivate students and to be excited about learning. I enjoy finding ways to connect the new knowledge to past experiences so the student puts it into long term memory. I enjoy finding different ways to present new knowledge that incorporates a students learning style. I enjoy working one-on-one with students and see their joy at accomplishing their goals. Teaching to me is not a job, it is the love of exploring, mastering and communicating together to discover new things, which will develop skills and lead to success later on in life.
I love math. I love finding the mystery in Algebra. I like finding ways to describe abstract problems that students can relate to in the real world. I enjoy breaking down complex math problems into small manageable segments that students can practice and solve. I enjoy creating drawings and finding real world examples of how math problems are actually used and benefit us in our lives.
I feel that reading is the opening of the mind to a lifetime of exploration, curiosity, and success. Whether it is reading online, through a Kindle type device, or a paper book, reading excites and stimulates the mind. I believe what we read provides exploration into a wide variety of topics that give us meaning to our everyday life. It is a way of creating a database that we can later use as a tool for critical thinking, problem solving and communicating in our global playground of knowledge.
My subjects include: Elementary K-6, Reading K-adult, Elementary Math, Elementary Spelling, Elementary English, Elementary Writing, Elementary Science, Elementary Social Studies, Pre-algebra, and Algebra 1.
To enjoy learning new knowledge, we will explore ways to connect it to the things that you love in life, your talents, and your learning style, and the things that are most important to you. We will find the areas that motivate you the most and expand those into your scheduled lessons. My goal is to present your lessons in a way that you learn to love learning and become excited to explore the world around you. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
