Hi, my name is Sushma! I recently graduated from WashU with College Honors and a Bachelor's degree in Biology: Neuroscience. A huge part of my college experience was receiving help outside of class from tutors which helped me understand the material in different ways. When it comes to my tutoring approach, I like to provide people with different ways of thinking about a topic to best suit their understanding. I believe the key to retaining information is to integrate different resources into studying so that you are constantly reviewing a topic from multiple angles and I hope to be one of those resources for you. After personally going through the trial and error of what study style works best for me, I found myself receiving help from various sources, mainly tutors. I appreciated how invested they were in their students and was inspired, so this Fall, I became a teaching assistant for Biology. I enjoy working with my students and value being a part of their personal growth.

I have a few years of tutoring experience, which started in high school. I was part of a tutoring program where I was paired with students who needed help in classes that I had previously done well in. In college, I became a teaching assistant, where I helped students understand difficult concepts by breaking down lecture material into simple ideas. Not only have I tutored at the high school/college level, but I've tutored elementary/middle school children in English and Math, mostly in an after school group setting. While there were students who just needed a little push, there were others who struggled more with the concepts and I was able to meet both where they were regardless of their starting point. Subjects that I've previously tutored in include Math (up until Calculus 3), English (received nearly a perfect score on the ACT section), and Biology (majored in Biology in college). I hope to work with you and help you achieve your goals, whether that's just getting through the class or making the subject your profession.

Doing practice tests and the actual exam, I was consistently scoring high on the ACT English section. I believe what helped me was realizing that each question falls into a category and once I was able to identify what kind of question it was, I could easily answer it. As your tutor, I would help you identify what kind of question it is and how to approach it from multiple angles.

Algebra 1

My favorite area of math has to be algebra and solving for variables. There's a methodical way to solve every problem and as a tutor, I would first help you identify what category the problem falls under, which will help you understand a pattern in how the problems are presented and the best way to solve them.

I have previously tutored people of all ages in math and am efficient at meeting people halfway.

As a neuroscience major, I have taken many courses related to psychology. I received a 5 on the AP Psychology test and nearly a perfect score on the Psychology section of the MCAT. I can help students understand topics by providing numerous examples and by relating the content to their own lives. This technique has helped me remember a lot of the terminology to this day and will be beneficial to you.

Knowledgeable and Caring

Sushma helped my son with AP Psychology. When we planned the lessons she was very professional, polite, and easy to communicate with. According to my son, she's the best tutor he's ever had. It takes more than being polite and professional. It takes an understanding of the subject and regurgitating it in a way that's understandable to the student. Sushma did that and more. She also showed a deep interest and care in making sure my son did well in the subject. Thank you for all your help!
