Bio

I'm Karis! MD-PhD grad at Wash U Medical School in St. Louis. I graduated magna cum laude in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Cornell, and obtained a Masters in Biology (summa) at Clark University in MA, before moving to St. Louis for graduate school. Since I was in high school, I have always a passion for mentoring and teaching peers and volunteered many times at after-school programs. I'm Karis! MD-PhD grad at Wash U Medical School in St. Louis. I graduated magna cum laude in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Cornell, and obtained a Masters in Biology (summa) at Clark University in MA, before moving to St. Louis for graduate school. Since I was in high school, I have always a passion for mentoring and teaching peers and volunteered many times at after-school programs. In college, I was a TA for Biochemistry, Organic Chemistry, Calculus and tutored various levels of Math and Science to a wide range of age groups (7 years to 56 years). I also prepped high school students taking the SAT and ACT, and premed students taking the MCAT (SLU and Wash U students mostly, references available). My favorite thing about teaching is when students who want to learn and get better and put in the effort achieve their goal. My teaching style is mostly based a the demonstrator and facilitator. I like to challenge students get to the answer by asking them questions. I also enjoy active learning and discussion groups and encourage all my students to ALWAYS ask questions. I was a Biochemistry major in undergrad and have tutored Chemistry and Pharmacology in undergraduate and in medical school for over 7 years.

I scored in the 99th percentile on my MCAT and have tutored privately and for Princeton and Kaplan for over 10 years. I have several premed students from SLU, Cornell, Harvard and Wash U who will serve as references with regards to my teaching style.

Great resource and teacher.

We covered different concepts of anatomy and physiology, specifically the urinary system. This is not my favorite system of the body, but I needed to master this material for my exam. Karis was great at breaking down various processes and given application with different patient scenarios. He provided in-depth explanations of the material, allowing me to actually learn and retain the material. I earned a 97.1 on my quiz. Will be signing up for another session soon to finish the semester on a high note!

The right tutor for you

The key to being a good student in physics is to master the concepts .In my case calculus is a given but mastering the concepts of physics can be challenging. Karis was very knowledgeable and helped me understand and even master the concepts on Electric Field, and Gauss’s law. He also communicated a different and very efficient approach of any physics concepts by teaching me the basics on the methodology oh how to attack any problem In physics which I believe a lot students lack. Would definitely recommend him to any student in all college level of physics

Great Experience

Karis was extremely helpful for me in learning a foundation of calculus and will continue working with me through calc 2 with more advanced calculus. He has a great eye for where errors were made and figuring out one's flaws in each area in need of improvement, then does well to fix them. Karis is very prepared with a great deal of material/problem sets and is very accommodating with a busy schedule. With Karis's help, I got a perfect score on my Calc I final exam.
