I hold a PhD in Biology with a research emphasis in evolution, genomics, bioinformatics, and statistics. I currently teach at the undergraduate, post-graduate, high school, and middle school levels in a variety of topics. I have also really enjoyed working with younger students as young as kindergarten.

Teaching is my passion, and I make my interest in the topic infectious to my students. Regardless of topic, I am skilled at summarizing content and making it easier for students to digest and grasp quickly. Further, I am talented at making any topic engaging -- even standardized test curriculum! Students learn more efficiently if they can see the applications of the topic to their lives and find a reason to care about the material. It is my goal to help students forge connections between the material and their daily lives and find a reason to care about learning.

As a scientific researcher, quantitative skills are absolutely required. I enjoy sharing my love of quantitative reasoning with students of all ages. In particular, I love teaching standardized test mathematics (ACT, SAT, GRE, GMAT) and statistics (introductory through advanced), including programming in R.

I am especially interested in helping students with test anxiety or those with diagnosed learning or other disabilities. Throughout the years, I have worked with students with ADD/ADHD, autism, oppositional defiant disorder, dyslexia, total blindness, hearing loss, and physical disabilities. I find it personally enriching to empower students to be their best versions of themselves, regardless of how differently abled they may be.

I strongly encourage students looking for a compassionate, nurturing instructor to contact me. If you have any questions at all, please send me a message!

Note:
I work often with students from Syracuse University IST 687, American University ITEC 621, and Biostatistics students from various MPH programs include George Washington University. I'm familiar with the curriculum for these programs and can help you meet the expectations of your course!

Fantastic tutor with great personality

Her knowledge of R and her ability to teach it with ease was extremely helpful. I was excited to continue learning! She made a topic I was hesitant about extremely fun.

Great R tutor

Katherine is a great R tutor. She is patient and has a sense of humor. She's also good at using her knowledge and imagination to help me when I give her a vague description of what I want to do in R. She's able to say, "hey, why don't we try this" and that's super helpful to me. I always enjoy our lessons!

Wonderful Tutor

Katherine was an amazing help for me in Biostatistics 1, 2, and survey methods. Without her easy, calm, encouraging voice I wouldn’t have made it. Online courses are challenging and she provides customized unique insights that fill in the gaps where online learning misses the mark. She’s brilliant and should be running her own Biology Biostatistics program. I can’t say enough positive things about Katherine!

Makes even the most gruelling of math - simple to understand

Logarithms can be very tricky - but Katherine skillfully broke it down for me in a simple and fun interactive way. By the end of the lesson, I understood what logarithms are and how to apply their rules to solve problems. I am super grateful for her expertise and warm character. Highly would recommend.

She has a very good understanding of how to approach things at your own pace and where to lead into, and set you on the right path. Statistics is a hard subject but she is very good at it and understands it thoroughly.

FANTASTIC!!!

Katherine helped me review non-linear models in R. I felt helpless before she was quickly able to explain the material in a simple, yet effective, format. Thank you again!

So kind and patient!!! She is amazing!!!

Katherine is one of the best tutors I've come across on this site. She is so knowledgeable and will go the extra mile to help you understand the material. She is very patient and a genuine tutor who wants you to succeed. She will explain things in different ways and doesn't rush. She is always prepared and is always willing to repeat things so graciously. Thank you Katherine.

Fan-freaking-tastic

I am almost halfway through my biostats class and have been getting through by the skin of my teeth. For the first time since I've started, I actually understand what I'm doing, why I'm doing it and what all those crazy Greek symbols mean. She was absolutely instrumental in my understanding and I could not recommend her enough. Fabulous teacher that was so patient and explained details to make the big picture make sense.

The most Exceptional 1 on 1 tutor

In my final quarter for my degree in Public health, I had the most patient and determined tutor. She would help me until I began to gain knowledge of the concepts being taught in my class. She went above and beyond to get the job done. I would recommend Katherine G. as a tutor for anyone, especially in statistics. Katherine G. is the BEST STATISTICS TUTOR.
