I'm Calvin! I graduated with honors with a bachelor's degree in Chemistry, and minors in Mathematics and Sociology. I hold a master's degree in Chemistry, with a focus in organic chemistry and a Ph.D. in the same field, with a focus in inorganic chemistry. During my undergraduate degree, I worked as an algebra, pre-calculus, calculus and a chemistry tutor. I worked directly with students who needed additional one-on-one assistance. In graduate level, I worked as a tutor/teacher with undergraduate students enrolled in general chemistry and organic chemistry classes. I taught chemistry labs for 4yrs now, with class sizes ranging from 18-24 students per session. In addition to teaching, I held tutorials every week with students who needed extra help with lecture materials to make sure they didn't fall behind in class. I prefer working with individual students because I can accomplish more with the student. I get to know each student individually and use their personality preferences and interests to find relevant and interesting analogies and explanations to help them comprehend and reinforce a subject's concepts.
I love tutoring/teaching because I find it inspirational. As a tutor, I see myself as a motivator and a facilitator to learning for a student. I find a humble happiness as I impart knowledge and skills to a student and see his/her growth in understanding the concepts. I find tutoring as a worthwhile happy. I not only communicate ideas effectively but also be a role model in the discipline I tutor
I have a great passion for mathematics. I had 2 years tutoring experience in undergraduate algebra, precalculus and calculus classes. I have also worked with my family and friends kids in high school enrolled in these courses.
I hold BS and MS degrees in chemistry. I have successfully tutored students in chemistry, health sciences and pre-med majors for 5+ years in general chemistry and organic chemistry. I do establish a friendly environment for my students. Apart from only using facts, structures, and equations, I also try to related materials to real issues and/or events.
As a teacher/tutor, I believe it's all about students and encouraging them to enjoy learning. I am not afraid to try new teaching methods. Excellence in tutoring is more than an impressive teaching philosophy. It is the compilation of small and caring efforts that reach the individual student. I want to benefit the students I work with, hence I welcome any suggestions and resources students/parents can provide. Feel free to contact me with additional questions.
