I earned my bachelors degree in Economics from Loyola University Maryland. I also completed pre--medical coursework during this time. I then completed nearly 100 graduate credit hours of biomedical coursework at Des Moines University.
I am very easy going and patient. I enjoy the process of teaching and realize that there are many ways to teach the same material. I enjoy the challenge of discovering the best way to serve the students.
I began tutoring after my first semester in college as both an employment and service opportunity. General Chemistry was the most requested course. I also tutored Biology, Organic Chemistry, developmental math and economics. I had the opportunity to help students during a very stressful time. It was very fulfilling to see students' grades improve through the semester.
I was also realistic about students' schedules. The night before a test is not the time to be learning new material, but one last run through of difficult topics can give students the confidence they need to perform their best. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
