Hello artists! My name is Chelsea, and I am a certified art teacher. Currently, I teach middle school art, but will soon be teaching high school graphic arts. Teaching is my calling and joy, and I love to see how my students gain confidence and push themselves creatively as they progress through my classes. I particularly enjoy tutoring because I can devote all of my attention to one student, and really provide an individualized experience based on the student's goals, interests, and natural gifts. I believe that everyone can create something unique, creative, and interesting. My goal is to give my students the tools, skills, and techniques they need to create the pictures in their minds. For those who need a little creative inspiration, I have all kinds of projects, ideas, and lessons to pull from, so that I can help you discover what you love to create.
When I am not teaching art, I work as a graphic designer for a local St. Louis design firm. In my spare time, I love to cook, decorate, learn about new interests, create beautiful things, and spend time with my family. I have a husband, a son, and four pets.
My experience includes 2 years of classroom teaching, six weeks of private in-home drawing lessons, and 1 year of student teaching in art classrooms. Skills I am comfortable teaching include digital arts (such as Photoshop), design, painting, collage and mixed media, drawing, ceramics, some sculpture, and some fiber arts.
In addition to my knowledge in art education, I also have experience working with individuals with developmental and behavioral disabilities, with an emphasis on autism. I worked as an in-home behavioral therapy implementer for two years, and served individuals in their homes and in the community by helping them to improve everyday occupational skills and social behavior, focusing on targeted behavioral goals. I have always loved working with people and helping them to grow and learn!
If you love the idea of expanding your (or your child's) creative horizons, I would be thrilled to work with you! Please feel free to contact me to learn more and move forward on your artistic journey! Hello artists! My name is Chelsea, and I am a certified art teacher. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
My qualification for tutoring individuals with autism comes from my work experience. For two years I worked as a Personal Care Assistant (PCA) for Behavior Intervention Services. As a PCA, I worked with individuals with developmental disabilities (usually autism), and helped them to work toward long-term behavioral goals. The experience was very in-depth and catered to each person that I worked with. Generally, I had around 3 individuals that I would work with at a time, and these were long-term consumers. I became very familiar with triggers, target behaviors, and successful techniques to help each person improve. I was trained in behavior management, discrete trial training, Mandt, and several medical/emergency topics.
I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. I completed five university drawing courses and passed each with an A grade. I have given private drawing lessons to a local family (three children in a group lesson, once a week), and incorporate drawing into my current curriculum as an art instructor. I am familiar with many methods and components of drawing, and proficient in all basic drawing methods.
My Bachelor of Fine Arts degree is, specifically, in Visual Communication (graphic design). I completed all required graphic design coursework, and am proficient in Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator. I currently work as a contracted graphic designer for a local design firm. My specialty is print design.
Painting was a required part of my BFA curriculum, and I am familiar with oil and acrylic painting. Painting is currently a part of my teaching curriculum, as is mixed media involving paint. I personally enjoy painting in my spare time as well.
