About Daniel

I am currently a 1st grade teacher in a Saint Louis Public School located in South Tower Grove. I have a class of 21 students whose backgrounds vary from english language learners to native english speakers. This is my first year year teaching first grade and I absolutely love it! I am very passionate about teaching and I love seeing the difference I am making in these students lives.

I am a 23 year old elementary school teacher in Saint Louis. I have my Missouri teaching degree which allows me to teach 1st through 6th grade. I love teaching students from various backgrounds.

I love teaching because I love working with children. I love challenging students to see their full potential. I love sharing stories with students and explaining to them how similar they are to so many other students, but yet they are all individuals. I was a title I math tutor for 4th and fifth grades Monday through Friday before school. I really enjoy getting to spend more time with the students as well as give them the extra help they need and deserve.

I am a certified elementary school teacher in the state of Missouri. I like tutoring math because I know not many students like math as a subject, so I get to experiment with many concepts and create ways for students to understand concepts they may not even know they are studying.

Last year I was an English Language Learner paraprofessional and I have been working with students on their reading and writing. I had 3 literacy classes in college that taught me how to make a literacy lesson plan as well as how students learn phonics and morphemes.

I have studied common core standards for the past 5 years, in college and now out of college. I am a certified elementary school teacher in the states of Missouri and Illinois.

Last year I was an English Language learner paraprofessional at an elementary school. Every day I worked with students whose native language is something other than English. We work on phonics every day, all day. I work with kindergarteners, first graders, second graders, third graders, fourth graders and fifth graders.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADHD

I have been working with children for 9 years now and I am currently a 1st grade teacher and my class is filled with 24 students where 6 of them have ADHD. Students with ADHD need ample instant feedback and also may need extra time to answer/complete problems. I like my students with ADHD to set goals for themselves and place them where they can see them so they can always go and check what they are working towards and where they should be at certain times.

Common Core

For the past 5 years of my life I have studied Common Core standards at Saint Louis University as well as on my personal time in my pursuit of becoming an elementary school teacher in the United States. Common Core standards were created by teachers and other leaders in the educational field to ensure all students are at a certain level by the time they hit high school and further down the road in college. I have created countless lesson plans centering around common core at Saint Louis University and for my jobs in special education rooms. I believe Common Core is a great way to show where a student is and where a student should be at, as well as to show the goals of certain grade level expectations.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am certified in the states of Missouri and Illinois to teach elementary classes 1st through 6th grade. I have over 120 hours of observation in elementary schools ranging from urban to suburban school settings. I have tutored 4th and 5th grade math for this entire year as well as I student taught in a 4th grade classroom last year for an entire semester.

Handwriting

I have studied elementary education for 4 years at Saint Louis University and I am currently a 1st grade teacher at a Saint Louis Public School. I have 24, 6 year olds who I teach phonics everyday to as well as we work on handwriting every single day.

Phonics

I recently graduated from Saint Louis University with my bachelor's in elementary education. I took 4 literacy classes during college which taught me various ways to teach phonics to various types of learners. I currently am an English Language Learner paraprofessional, where I work with kindergartners through fifth graders solely on reading and writing.

Special Needs

I am currently a 1st grade teacher in which I have 2 special needs students in my class. I have created specialized plans for each of them as well as I helped create one of their IEPS. I have been a paraprofessional in a special education classroom and have worked as a team member last summer at a special education sports camp called TASK (Team Activities for Special Kids).
