I grew up in St. Louis and although I had an interest in art, I never thought I had the talent to be an artist. I served in the military and married a year after I left service. I had four children and after having divorced I moved to Oregon in order to put my son into a treatment program for children with behavioral problems. It is when we returned home, ten years later, that I took an adult ed watercolor class and discovered that not only did I have a natural instinct for color, but without knowing how to draw, I could almost perfectly copy images that I referenced for painting.
After spending several years in the fitness business on a grant funded program, when that program ended I decided that I needed to learn more about art and the different mediums. I started out in the community college and was compelled to seek out higher education and earned my BFA. The compulsion didn't go away, though, so under extreme financial difficulty I went all the way to a MFA. My thesis will be featured in a local art magazine. I am presently working with an autistic man and am finding it very fulfilling. My goal is to work for myself in order to have the time to focus on my art while helping others to create their art.
I am presently working with an autistic man and I recognize his need to explore the mediums in his own way in order to express himself.
I have been teaching drawing and ceramics for three years. I teach drawing, painting, bookmaking, ceramics and basic digital photography.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
