About William

I started my career in education 10 years ago, tutoring students in German at Truman State University. Since then, I've been fortunate enough to have taught both German (at the University of Missouri-Columbia) and English (at the Philipps University in Marburg, Germany). I've taught beginning and intermediate-level German and German History, as well as English writing, grammar, and conversation courses.

My favorite aspect of teaching is seeing my students improve day over day and week over week, both in terms of their language skill, and the confidence that comes along with it. Few things were better than seeing a student who was struggling at the beginning of the semester improve to a point where they were thriving and excited to move onto bigger challenges by the end of the semester. I look forward to the opportunity to work with you to get you to the same point!

I have taught the following German courses:
- Beginner's German at Kirksville Middle School in Kirksville, MO (2004-2005)
- Beginning and intermediate German at the University of Missouri-Columbia (2006-2011)
- German Civilization at the University of Missouri-Columbia (2011)

I have also tutored German, either through Truman or Mizzou or privately, from 2004-2011.

I taught English writing, grammar, and conversation courses at the Philipps University in Marburg, Germany (2007-2008).

I have also tutored English composition privately from 2007-2011.

I look forward to the opportunity to help you reach your academic and personal goals!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

English

I have taught English composition and conversation at the Phillipps University in Marburg, Germany, and have also done private tutoring with students wanting to improve their writing skills on class essay projects.

German

I began tutoring German at Truman State University in 2004, and had the opportunity to teach a few sections of German at the University of Missouri-Columbia from 2006-2011. As an education major in grad school, I've had the opportunity to work with a wide variety of students in many different environments.

Patient and smart!

My son is very quiet and has little confidence in the subject. He easily could have completely clammed up but William was very patient and supportive. My son even enjoyed his lesson!
