Currently I am an 8th Grade Mathematics teacher in Waterloo, IL. At Waterloo Junior High School, I have had the privilege to teach 8th Grade Math and Algebra prior to the introduction of the Common Core Standards, but also after. As the mathematics department head, I have had the opportunity to develop curriculum for both Pre-Algebra (8th Grade Math) and Algebra 1. This opportunity plus the Intel Mathematics course have allowed me to experience planning for various grade levels as well as developing vertical alignment between grade levels. Throughout my 7 years of teaching, I have been challenging my students by incorporating tasks, cooperative learning, and technology. My favorite part of my job is working with the students to help them to be successful not only in math, but also in everyday life!
Tutoring is an experience that I enjoy because I can develop an understanding of the student, his/her needs, and pursue the goals that we set. This all seems to come together much quicker than it does in a classroom of 26 or more. I tutored a high school student last summer in Algebra 1, and it was a great experience! I can only hope that all other experiences will be the same!
Math is a subject that I always excelled in as well as enjoyed! My students tend to think that I am a "dork" for getting so excited about math and how it all develops and comes together! In my classroom, we always refer each mathematics topic to practical life examples so that the students see the math come "alive". My classroom and tutoring sessions are full of challenges, real life examples, collaboration, higher level thinking, and laughter!
Currently I am the Waterloo Junior High School 8th Grade Girls' Basketball Coach. In my 4 years at the junior high school (I coached high school basketball for 3 years prior), we have won Conference once, and we were Conference Tournament Champions two times. Basketball was always my favorite sport growing up, and I continue to have a passion for teaching basic skills and team work to others who enjoy the sport as well!
I look forward to hearing from you and helping you achieve success in math! Currently I am an 8th Grade Mathematics teacher in Waterloo, IL. At Waterloo Junior High School, I have had the privilege to teach 8th Grade Math and Algebra prior to the
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
