About Chelsea

I am a Sarasota local who has had the opportunity to study at Smith College in Northampton, MA and at the University of Manchester, a member of the UK's prestigious "Russell Group." I have returned home to work in the administrative department of a medical office, as I am preparing to pursue a career in medicine.

I have a full-time job, but I am available nights and weekends. I majored in Sociology, but I would like to tutor students in math, music theory, and Spanish. I performed well in all of these courses: I completed Calculus with an A, was a Visual and Performing Arts student that played clarinet on the stages of Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center, and lived as an au pair in Valladolid, Spain. I also use Spanish in my current full-time position.

I recently had the opportunity to tutor a student in AP Statistics. It was very rewarding to see the student's grade increase and to see the relief on his face due to his assignment completion. I would love the opportunity to tutor more students. It'll keep me young.

I make math relatable to everyday life as much as possible. Instead of instructing a student to memorize multiples of 25, for instance, I tell them to think of quarters and dollars. I help them understand the importance of learning the concepts in addition to providing multiple ways of solving the problem on their own.

I interact with Spanish speakers from different countries daily. I have learned how to navigate different accents and dialects. Also, I have lived in Spain. I can help the student with conversational Spanish in addition to grammar.

I simply love music. As a Visual and Performing Arts student, I was tasked with learning the major scales on piano, solf├Ęge practice, and the history of typical song structures. I can hear when a song shifts to a relative minor key or when a pop song is following the 'sonata-allegro' form that began in classical music. I studied classical and contemporary pop music in college, so I understand both the social impact and composition of most songs. Also, I have perfect pitch. I can listen to a song and tell you which key it is in.

I am excited to meet you all! Tutoring, in a way, fulfills my need to mentor younger students. I am only 24, but I believe in the lifelong pursuit of knowledge. I hope to be of assistance and would love to further discuss any qualifications or concerns.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
